My push bike got nicked … and it’s not my fault

… or at least I think that title is probably a summary of what this post will be.

My bike was stolen from the foyer of the Co-op bank yesterday afternoon. It wasn’t locked there, but I could see it from where I was being served so I figured that would be OK. Unfortunately I wasn’t looking at it when it got nicked!

Later, when explaining what happend to a friend, I found myself saying that it was my fault! What utter rubish. I didn’t steal my bike. It’s not my fault. I’m not even going to say that I was to blame either. Why blame me for nicking my bike! It is true to say that I could have done more to prevent the theft. But that is a long way from claiming it’s my fault or I’m to blame.

I invite your comment (see link below) about wether you think I’m right that it’s not my fault and I’m not to blame.

So, naturally, I was in a foul mood for an hour or so. My insurance company (Abbey) cheered me up though. I phoned them at 16:30 and registered the claim. They didn’t bat an eyelid about it not being locked. By 18:30 I had had a call from Halfords explaining the current value of my bike and accessories and that they would be sending me a Halford’s voucher for that ammount (- £25 excess) in the next couple of days. That’s pretty good service It think.

Also it inspired me to get my motorbike MOTed and back on the road – it failed, but only cos of a bald front tyre (about which I had forgotten). So I’ll get a new tyre today and be back on the two wheeled motorised road!

Peace
