TomCoyote – Malware removal
Well – this site deserves a mention.
Somehow my computer got serisouly infected with spyware/virus/malware recently. I think it happened when a site I was trying to browse told me that I needed to be using Internet Explorer instead of the better and more secure 
. So I switched to IE for that particular download (which I virus checked as soon as I got it) but already bad things were afoot. Bah!
Anway I came across 
, which is a forum in which you can firstly find some self help advice to get rid of infections; and if that doesn’t clean it all up you can post the log from some diagnostic software and their experienced volunteers help you battle the evil malware! I found Ken ultimately helpful and in the end we were, I think, victorious.
Here are the various programs I used:
- Hijack This Detect and Fix
- Spybot Search and Destroy to detect and clean
- AdAware to detect and clean
- AVG Anti-Spyware to detect, clean and protect
- ATF-Cleaner for cleaning out temporary files in windows, IE and Firefox
- CCleaner for cleaning out temporary files in windows, IE and Firefox and a load of other applications
- ComboFix When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Do not mouseclick combofix’s window whilst it’s running. That may cause it to stall.
- CWShredder
to get rid of CoolWebSearch which is a tough one! - Panda ActiveScan for online scanning and reporting of my PC
- KillBox for deleting files that are alegedly in use etc.
