What’s David Up To
Work
I’m working as a Youth Worker for Westbury-on-Trym Baptist Church, which also has some input to Lawrence Weston Baptist Church. I oversee the provision of youth work to the young people of the church.
This is what’s followed on from completing a degree in Youth and Community Work and Applied Theology. The degree is put together by an consortium called CYM, one of whose members is Bristol Baptist College and it is there, in Clifton, that I had my lectures, tutorials, small groups etc. The study also includes a long term placement for the practice of youth work.
I’m trying to spend a day a week on Bristol based web design. If you check out the church website referred to above you can see an example of my creations!
I have now finished working a day a week for INCLUDE, who provide education to young people that have been permanently excluded from school. I work with them doing IT tuition. Before I started the degree I was also doing 3 days a week of support work with one of the projects.
Before the degree, I spent 4.5 years working in IT as an Applications Trainer and consultant, I left the world of business to find an occupation that has ‘positive social outcomes within the communities of Bristol’. To that end I have been working with young people (doing youth work) since 2002
